That's what Bertrand Russell's grandmother taught him repeatedly about metaphysics which he found quite funny until one day it started to bore him - like the believe in the existence of God. Materialism of the [anglican] West makes people believe that they could base their atheism on aristotelean logic. As far as I know Russell (1872-1970) remained atheist even after Kurt Gödel showed in 1931 that any closed mathematical system, such as attempted in the book "Principia Mathematica" (1910-1913) by Russell and Whitehead, to base the foundations of mathematics on pure logic, must be incomplete.

"Nazism emerged from a nation unable to stabilize itself and degenerated to unforeseen limits of depravity. The policy of aggression in Washington has brought a comparable degree of scientific extermination and moral degeneracy."
-- Quote Bertrand Russell, Speech to the First Meeting of Members of the War Crimes Tribunal, London, 13-Nov-1966 [From Autobiography (Allena & Unwin, 1969), vol. III, pp. 215-16]

"Of the great religions of history, I prefer Buddhism, especially in its earliest forms, because it has had the smallest element of persecution."
-- Quote Bertrand Russell, What is an Agnostic?

"There is an artist imprisoned in each one of us. Let him loose to spread joy everywhere."
-- Quote Bertrand Russell, Last Essay: "1967".

"We must repudiate the degenerate conception of individual intelligence, which confuses open minds with empty ones."
-- Quote Bertrand Russell, Speech to the First Meeting of Members of the War Crimes Tribunal, London, 13-Nov-1966 [From Autobiography (Allen & Unwin, 1969), vol. III, pp. 215-16]
