What puzzles me is that Charles Seife in "Alpha & Omega
: The Search for the Beginning and End of the Universe" did not mention Stephen Hawking
except in a single footnote about black holes. But I enjoyed reading Stephen Hawking's
"A Brief History of Time" when I was a student and I'm looking forward to read his even briefer history
of the universe when I'll unwrap his new book under the Christmas tree.

Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. About the Author
Stephen Hawking:
In 1963, Stephen Hawking contracted motor neurone disease and was given two years to live. Yet he went on to Cambridge to become a brilliant researcher and Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. Since 1979 he has held the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge, the chair held by Isaac Newton in 1663. Professor Hawking has over a dozen honorary degrees, was awarded the CBE in 1982. He is a fellow of the Royal Society and a Member of the US National Academy of Science.
